The Gigwatcher 03/10/2007

Do you want fries with that?

Apparently Mick Jagger loves all the Rolling Stones' hits and never tires of singing them.

Yes, even Harlem Shuffle.

No, I don't believe him either.

Portsmouth Scene Promotions will be celebrating their first birthday with the fourth of their very successful 'Best Of Portsmouth' showcase events. The line-up this time includes The Racketeers, The Elements, The Way, The Model Village and Revolution 74, all of whom will be appearing at Portsmouth Guildhall on Saturday 20th October. Tickets are £9 in advance (slightly more on the door, if available).

This week's guest slots at Roger Courtney's Open Mike Club are filled by My Endeavour and Mojito; the bands will be onstage at The Barn at The Milton Arms tomorrow, Thursday 4th October, between 1915-2115. As usual, after the guest artistes, the stage will be thrown open to all comers to do their thing (be advised, there's a two song limit per performer). Admission is FREE, doors open at 1900 and you're advised to arrive early.

The sudden death of Rob Wicked, landlord of The Fawcett Inn, has thrown the future of the pub into jeopardy. Friends of the man and the venue are therefore holding a special benefit at The Albert Tavern, South Parade Pier, on Friday 12th October to ensure his legacy lives on. Confirmed to appear so far are Autons, Kangaroo Moon, Here & Now and Bubbledubble (and there'll be a chilled DJ set from the chaps at Deltawave as well). Doors 2000-0100, tickets are £9 and will be available on the door only.

And that about wraps it up for this week. Today I have mostly been listening to Editors (who were really rather good at The Guildhall last night, even if they did think they were in Norwich) and The Shins. Join me next week when I'll be painting myself into a corner.

:o)
