The Gigwatcher 28/11/2007

It's too orangey for crows.

Y'know the more I think about it the more I'm convinced that there's a small monkey living in Amy Winehouse's beehive who controls all her thoughts and actions. His name is Gerald, and he's an angry little monkey indeed.

*koff*

Moving swiftly on, here are the tasty morsels found amongst the back pages of this week's NME:

If you've a hankering to share the tunes on your iPod to a wider audience than just your own ears then head to The Edge of The Wedge in Portsmouth this Saturday, 1st December, when the venue will be hosting a "What's On Your iPod?" evening. All you need to do is knock up a 15 minute (and no longer) playlist and turn up early enough to blag one of the slots (availability of which are limited). After that you can sit back and enjoy 15 minutes of aural fame. The event has been organised to mark World Aids Day, red ribbons will be available on the night and any donations made will go directly to the National AIDS Trust.

The chaps from Hot Chip will be spinning a DJ set to entertain the masses at Southampton's Orange Rooms this Friday, 30th November. Doors open at 2000, with entry a mere £2 on the door (£4 after 2200).

As well as featuring live music from Wyld Side (winners of The Wedgewood Rooms Showcase '07 competition) and OK Tokyo!, tonight's Waster also includes a Guitar Hero 3 competition. If that's not enough then the Southsea Mafia DJs will be doing their thing too. Envy in Portsmouth again hosts the fun, which runs from 2200 through to 0230. It's a paltry £1 entry before 2300, rising to a still reasonable £3 after.

Local Indie band Pathway and Glaswegian alternative rockers Boogi Loushou will be the musical guests at Roger Courtney's Open Mike Club at The Milton Arms tomorrow, Thursday 29th November. The stage will be open to all budding performers afterward to try their hand entertaining the audience. Admission is FREE and the doors open at 1900.

And finally, the Sunday night headliners for next year's Isle of Wight Festival have been announced. In something of a coup for the organisers, The Police will be making their only UK festival appearance at Seaclose Park on June 15th 2008. Tickets for the festival go on general sale at 0900 on Monday 10th December.

That's it for another week; this morning I have mostly been listening to Fields and Guillemots, with a pinch of DJ Shadow inbetween. Join me next week when I'll building a house of cards the hard way (it involves mittens and lots of Red Bull).

:o)
