The Gigwatcher 16/11/2007

Carnival of Souls

Pete Doherty, Amy Winehouse and Britney Spears.

That's the punchline, all I need now is the joke that goes with it.

*koff*

Tutty Fruity Promotions have organised an evening of acoustic entertainment at The Alma Arms this Sunday, 18th November, to raise funds for the BBC's annual Children In Need appeal. So far confirmed to appear are October In Minnesota, Champ Of The Day, Dirty Sky Jones and Leigh Mary Stokes, with more acts are to be announced. There are a couple of slots available, acoustic acts wanting to take part should message Tutty Fruity on their MySpace. Entrance is £4 on the door, and there'll be a raffle as well.

The Pigeon Detectives gig at The Guildhall, Portsmouth, tonight might be sold out, but there's still a chance to rub shoulders with the band at the official after-show party. Little Johnny Russell's on Albert Road will be hosting the bash, which will feature DJ sets from the band and resident turntablist Red Indie.

The Edge of The Wedge is hosting 'Protect The Human', an evening for Amnesty International, tomorrow, Saturday 17th November. Mrs Kooper will be providing Bhangra and Asian vibes, plus a selection of music from around the globe, for your delectation and delight. Entrance costs a suggested donation of £3 on the door and, to support those detained at Guantanamo Bay, the organisers are encouraging those attending wear something orange.

The line-up for next year's Shockwaves NME Awards Tour has been released. The Cribs, The Ting Tings, Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong and Does It Offend You, Yeah? will be pitching up their stalls and showcasing their talents at The Pyramids, Portsmouth, on Thursday 21st February 2008. Tickets are available now from Seetickets.

And that about wraps it up for this week. Today I have mostly been listening to Jimmy Eat World's new album and the excellent collection of remixes that is the new Soulwax/2 ManyDJs compilation. The Gigwatcher returns to its usual Wednesday delivery next week, so join me next time when I'll be impersonating Lenin.
