Tonight's Waster features live music from indie dance outift The Haunts and ex-Rolling Dog types Melodramas, plus the usual fine selection of indiepunkelectrorockdance courtesy of the Southsea Mafia DJs. Doors open at Liquid Envy in Portsmouth at 2200, entrance is £1 before 2230 (£2 before 2300, £3 after).
The Talking Heads will be hosting a second charity showcase this Sunday, 11th May, featuring performances from the best new talent in Southampton (line-up to be announced). All profits from the evening will be donated to the Hampshire Autistic Society and Southampton-based charity Scratch; entrance is £3, the first act is on-stage at 1930.
Hipshaker returns to The Wedgewood Rooms this Saturday, 10th May, for a rollicking evening of classic 60s soul, funk and R&B. In addition to the resident DJs there'll also be live music from ska outfit Orange Street. Doors open at 2130 and tickets are £5.
Lovers of fine tunes and fine ladies should get along to The RMA Tavern in Portsmouth this Sunday, 11th May; HMS Pin Up will be docking for an evening of burlesque featuring Miss Rose Thorn, Miss Ruby Red and Miss Dolly Divine, accompanied by fine tunes courtesy of Chaos DJ Spikey Mark. Doors open at 2000, tickets are £5 in advance from The Wedgewood Rooms (ID may be required at the door) and there's a Facebook group too.
This Sunday, 11th May, is Love Albert Road Day, a celebration of the fine avenue that we all know and love. Aside from all the fine entertainments on offer along the Portsmouth's own Bohemian boulevard (including the Tour de Albert prize draw, a busking competition and a display of vintage bikes) the Edge of The Wedge will be hosting FREE entertainment from Wiservice, Passenger and Whisky Sour from midday. More information can be found on the event's Facebook group.
Power-pop out fit Dielle and local roots outfit Two Fingers of Firewater provide the guest entertainment at Roger Courtney's Open Mike Club this week, with the regular Open Mike session following from 2200. Doors open at The Barn at The Milton Arms at 1900 tomorrow, Thursday 8th May, and admission is FREE.
And that's it for another week. This afternoon I have again been mostly listening to those tuneful New Zealanders Flight of The Conchords, who's album the NME gave a mighty 8 out of 10.
