The Gigwatcher 20/02/2008

Horace Goes Skiing

So the question is, do I have enough beer to play 'drink-a-long-a-Brits' tonight?

All I have to do is take a swig every time Ozzy inadvertently swears on live TV, Amy Winehouse dedicates a song to her incarcerated husband, Macca gives 'two thumbs up to camera or one of the guest presenters fails to recognise who they're giving their award to.

[thinks]

I'm going to need a bigger fridge.

*koff*

Moving swiftly on, here for your delectation and delight are the gigs lovingly plucked from the back pages of this week's NME:

Little London and The Levels will be providing the live music at indie club night Waster this evening, with resident DJs from the Southsea Mafia furnishing the best pre-recorded sounds for your aural pleasure. The doors at Portsmouth's Liquid Envy open at 2200, entrance is only £1 before 2300 (after which it's a still reasonable £3).

Roger Courtney's Open Mike Club tomorrow night features Portsmouth's own psychedelic collective Cool Banana and indie rockers At The Weakend, plus the regular open mike session. Doors open at The Barn at The Milton Arms at 1900, admission is, as always, FREE.

Tomorrow night's planned Club 12th Hour, at The Fat Fox on Albert Road in Portsmouth, has been CANCELLED. Details of the rescheduled date will appear on the events' MySpace in due course.

The Isle Of Wight's own Rob Da Bank will be pitching up his Bestival Reunion Tour at Southampton's Orange Rooms tomorrow night, with a DJ set from the man himself plus a live performance from The Cuban Brothers. The next evening, Friday 22nd February, the tour meets up with Sumo at Little Johnny Russell's in Portsmouth, with DJ sets from Sinden, The Go! Team and DJ Derek.

And that's it for another week. This afternoon I have mostly been listening to Feist and Goldfrapp (the latter's new album is really rather good). Join me next week when I'll be conducting the imaginary orchestra in your head.

:o)
